In My Haven: June 16

This week in my haven I kicked summer break off with a bang! I participated in two markets and taught an appliqué sewing workshop. In between these events my sewing machine has been getting a workout too. I also took Joanna fabric shopping this week so that she could pick out fabric for her 4-H sewing project. She chose to make a pair of pajama shorts. We also decided that the best way for her to learn how to sew her own shorts was to do a sew-along with me, so I'm going to be sewing some new pj shorts too. I'll be sure to post some in-progress photos to my Instagram Stories, if you care to follow along once we get started. Having more opportunities to share my love of sewing with others has been one of the very parts of starting Haven Handmade.

One other thing I want to mention this week a little giveaway opportunity. I appreciate every single interaction I have with customers and supporters, whether it takes places in-person or digitally. Every conversation, compliment, view, like, comment, share, word-of-mouth recommendation, etcetera, etcetera keeps me doing what I do best here at Haven Handmade. This journal is the space where I get to share the Haven Handmade story in the most detail, so it is especially meaningful that you take a moment out of your week to read my words. To thank all my readers (and perhaps entice a few new readers), I'm going to be hosting a few giveaways here throughout the summer. To enter the first one, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. One commenter will be chosen at random and will receive an appliquéd mini banner (keep reading to see what it looks like)!

Summer Floral Motif

I love sewing floral designs! This circular floral motif is my newest, and I designed it specifically for a display for a business owner friend of mine. This appliqué will be featured at the My Two Ladies booth at the craft industry trade show, H+H Americas, later next week. I was honored to be asked by Alexis to contribute to this special project and really look forward to attending my first trade show. If you like this design, you don't have to feel left out though! It is available in the Haven Handmade shop and at any markets I'm participating in.

More From My Haven

Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.

  • What I'm Cooking: Peter cooked these Pepperoni Garlic Knots this week and they were delicious!

  • What I'm Reading: I am almost done reading The Little Paris Bookshop (Nina George), and, unfortunately, the ending of the book has not been holding my interest as much as the beginning.

  • What Joanna is Reading: Joanna and I started reading Adventures with Waffles (Maria Parr), and so far it is such a sweet and silly story about two friends who get into plenty of mischief.

  • What’s Making Me Happy: Not having to set an alarm clock!

Mini Banner Giveaway

This mini banner was the sample for my appliqué workshop at the Harold Washington Library Maker Lab earlier this week. You can give it a good home by entering for a chance to win it by leaving a comment on this post. Tell me what's happening in your haven, recommend a book or a recipe, or let me know what your favorite appliqué design is. I can't wait to hear from you!

What's happening in your haven this week?

Warmly,

Beth
