In My Haven: November 3
This week in my haven I have not done as much actual sewing as I would have liked. Last weekend I went down a sewing rabbit hole doing research about the “Top Down, Center Out” method of fitting a pants sewing pattern. Since then, I've become a little obsessed about learning as much as I can and fitting a muslin using this method. It's been rather interesting, but also challenging. I think I'm at the point of having my toile made, and I'm ready to start transferring my pattern adjustments back to the paper pattern. To be honest, I'm not feeling completely confident that I've gotten to my ideal fit yet, but I think I've come as close as I can at this stage of the process. Next week I hope I can get a pair of pants cut out and stitched up so that I can test out the results of my attempt to use this fitting method.
On the Haven Handmade front, I am still figuring out exactly what I have time for and what I want to focus on. Here are some of the things that I'm hoping to be able to do soon:
make a tutorial for my Vintage Rose appliqué pattern
make a tutorial for appliquéing on a sweatshirt
release a new winter appliqué pattern
update the shop to show what items I currently have in stock and ready to order
continue using my social media to share what I've been sewing for both personal and business purposes
The big question that I can't answer yet is when I'll be able to do all these things. I'm still settling into my new work schedule and figuring out how to balance all the moving parts in my life. What I'm certain of is that I care deeply about this business that I've built over the past three years and want to see it continue in some form.
Haven Handmade Patterns
These six designs are the candidates for the next appliqué pattern I want to release.
Top Row, Left to Right
Cardinal on a Branch (possibly as a pillow pattern)
Sewing Machine & Notions (possibly as a series of Christmas tree ornaments)
Be Kind Rainbow (as a wall hanging)
Second Row
Gingerbread Man, Christmas Tree & Snowman (possibly as Christmas stockings)
Which one is your favorite? What other ways can you think of to use these different designs?

Here's some background and useful information about the Top Down, Center Out pants fitting method, in case you're interested in learning more.
The Top Down, Center Out method was created by Ruth Collins. She has a wealth of information on her Instagram account.

This video series, by the Crooked Hem, was extremely helpful for breaking down each step as well as the thought process behind it.
What's happening in your haven this week?
Warmly,
