In My Haven: September 15
This week in my haven I've been keeping my hands busy with lots of sewing to get ready for the Logan Square Makers Market at Revolution Brewing. Take a look below to see everything I sewed this week! It's so satisfying to take a few plain bits of fabric and turn them into something unique, beautiful and useful. I think that's a feeling you can get from a variety of hobbies or activities, but sewing is what gives me that sense of creative fulfillment. I really think it's important to have a creative outlet of some sort in order to feel balanced. Creating is definitely a form of self-care, and it's one that isn't selfish because your creations can bring joy to others too. (This is a different conversation, but sometimes I think that there is a very fine line between self-care and selfish.) At the end of this week's journal I have some links to share related to the idea of making things with your hands.
I also have a new appliqué pattern and tutorial to share with you this week. If you've been admiring my Leaf Collection Banner and wondering if you could make something similar, then wonder no more! I've put together everything you need to do it yourself. Being able to share what I sew in a way that allows you to make something yourself is just the best. Please take a look and share it with all the crafty people you know!

Hands: Making it Yourself
Each week this section of my journal will be dedicated to one of four broad categories: Heart, Head, Hands, and Hospitality. I will be sharing reflections and resources to help nurture our emotions, our practical lives, our creativity, and our relationships
If you're at all like me, you love the feeling of using or looking at something you've made yourself. Whether it's a dish you've cooked, a plant you've grown, a work of art you've created, or a utilitarian item you've built, there's a unique feeling of satisfaction that comes from using your own hands to make something. I hope you make time in your life to do activities that bring you this sense of joy and purpose. I feel so incredibly lucky that using my hands to create is my job, and I have you to thank for that.
