This Week in My Haven: Or Should I Say Month?

This week in my haven I finally have enough time to sit down and write a journal post for the first time in a month! I’m not complaining though. As much as I enjoy writing these posts, I enjoy sewing more and the reason I haven’t had time to post anything is because I’ve been busy sewing. How about I share a little bit about what I’ve been sewing and what you can look forward to?

At the end of September I restocked some items at the Nappanee Artisan Market while I was in Indiana visiting my mom and sisters. We saw the musical Little Women at the Round Barn Theater, which is on the same property as the Nappanee Artisan Market. It was such a treat to spend quality time with my family, see a live show, and check out all the amazing artisan goods.

The very next weekend I was a vendor at the Evanston Made Market. This was my first time participating in a market in a parking garage, and I’m now a big fan. It was just so practical! I’m hoping to be back in Evanston for another market in the future because I was so pleased with how it went.

That catches us up to the sewing I was doing to be ready for this week. I dropped off a sizable batch of Huggables, travel drawing sets, and pillows to a shop that is going to be opening soon in the Beverly neighborhood. It’s called Haven 1890. Their shop is opening inside of a renovated church and I have no doubt that it’s going to be a gem. You should definitely check them out when they open!

Here’s a little photo dump from the past month:

With all of that behind me, my focus is turning towards Christmas and holiday sewing. I’ve already sewn up and shipped off one holiday order and have another in the works. I love these early holiday orders!

Here’s what I have planned for new holiday items:

  • Huggables-style personalized ornaments

  • A new winter-themed Huggable animal (Can you guess what animal it will be?)

  • Navy blue placemats and stockings with free motion stitched snowflakes

  • Cream colored placemats and stockings with free motion stitched holly and berries

Keep an eye out on social media to get the first glimpse of these goodies and for updates about when they are ready to order! I’m going to try to get them listed as soon as I can because I know there are others who want to get their holiday orders placed before the last minute rush. And if you haven’t considered ordering earlier than normal this year, please do. With my limited sewing hours, I estimate that I can make a maximum of about 100 items in time to be shipped out before Christmas. If I reach that number early, I may have to pause taking new orders until after the holidays.

Thank you as always for reading this journal and supporting Haven Handmade in all sorts of ways. With the season of gratitude and giving approaching, I wanted to be sure to share my appreciation...especially since it might be another month before you hear from me again! Have a very happy weekend!
