In My Haven: August 18
This week in my haven the focus was definitely on getting ready for the first day of school. We had things like dentist appointments and school supply shopping to do, which made it a little more challenging to make progress on some of my projects for Haven Handmade. When I feel like I'm getting behind on my sewing work because of parenting responsibilities, I always try to remind myself that it's a blessing to have this flexibility. I originally started Haven Handmade so that I could focus on the needs of my family first and schedule work around that. I love the work I'm doing for my business though, so sometimes it's hard to put it aside. I know that in the long run it's more important that I prioritize my family because the work will always be there. Is your haven getting ready for the start of a new school year?
When I did have sewing time this week I was getting started on one of my biggest projects ever. It's for a custom order so I'm not sure I can share many details yet, but I'm super excited about it! I didn't have a chance to work on any of my new fall designs like I had hoped because I had to prioritize this custom project during my limited time this week. Your patience will be worth it though! I should hopefully be able to share all about it next week instead of just posting teaser photos to Instagram.

More From My Haven
Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.
What I'm Cooking: Our favorite meal this week was a rice noodle salad that we devoured. I didn't follow a recipe, but it was full of shredded chicken, cucumbers, carrots. radishes, sugar snap peas and cilantro. It was topped with a soy peanut dressing that was similar to this one. It made great leftovers for lunch the next day too.
What I'm Reading: I've continued reading The Dressmaker (Kate Alcott) this week and I'm loving how the characters are really developing now that I'm about halfway through. If you're a fan of the history surrounding the Titanic, then you'll probably enjoy this story.
What Joanna is Reading: Joanna and I just finished the first part of Wildwood (Colin Meloy, Carson Ellis). I think I would enjoy this story even if I weren't reading it to Joanna!
What’s Making Me Happy: My newest niece was born this week and I am excited to meet her! I'm happy the both she and her mother are healthy.
What's happening in your haven this week?
Warmly,
Beth
