In My Haven: October 14, 2022
This week in my haven I've got three things on my mind simultaneously. One: find new/better ways to connect with people who are interested in what I make. Two: prep for my final farmers market of the season. Three: gear up for the holiday season. Read on to find out a bit more about each of these things and learn what else is happening in my haven.
Connecting
Using Instagram and Facebook to try to connect with people who are interested in what I make has felt pretty, well…pointless lately. I've heard so many other small business owners say this too. It feels like a moving target when you're at the mercy of “the algorithm”, and it increasingly feels very one-sided instead of social. So, I'm trying to build other connections in other ways. As you can tell since you are reading this, I want to share more through my journal right here. I'm also working on building relationships with other small businesses in the Chicago area (more about that soon). Finally, I'm going to try branching out on Pinterest and even a bit on YouTube, where others who are interested in free motion appliqué can potentially find out more about what I do. If you're feeling burnt out on social media too, please feel free to vent in the comments because I'll definitely be sympathetic!

More From My Haven
Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.
What I'm cooking: Avgolemono Soup (Greek chicken and rice soup with a lemony, eggy broth)
What I'm making: Work on Joanna’s 2022 Halloween costume has commenced! She wants to be a monarch butterfly princess. We've got the wings partially done, but there is more to do, which I'll be sure to share.
What I'm reading: The Memory of Babel by Christelle Dabos (Book 3 of the Mirror Visitor series)
What I'm reading with Joanna: Freya and the Magic Jewel by Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams
What's happening in your haven this week?
Warmly,
Beth
