This Week in My Haven: No. 3
This week in my haven has been busy! Balancing my work and my daughter’s schooling and outside obligations has kept me moving and it felt like the week went by in the blink of an eye. I don’t know where this week went! I hope your week wasn’t too hectic.
Shop announcements:
I am running low on golden yellow fabric and I don’t know when it will be back in stock to reorder it. So if you like this color, order right away!
I will be adding blue aprons, placemats, and napkins soon.
A free cloth face mask is being included with all October orders. You can’t have enough masks, right?
What I’m thinking about: The holiday season. After finishing up a few orders at the beginning of the week, I went into full-on holiday planning mode. It is a little strange to be thinking about the holidays while it’s currently above 70 degrees outside and most of the leaves are still on the trees. I don’t want to rush the fall! However, this holiday season is probably going to be unlike any other. I want to be prepared for it, but I also don’t want to overthink it or be too rigid in my expectations. And this applies to my plans for the Haven Handmade shop just as much as it does to my own holiday celebrations. Have you started to think about how you’re going to celebrate the holidays this year?
What I’m making: I didn’t spend as much time at my sewing machine this week as I would have liked to. I sewed up the orders I had, but didn’t have time for any personal projects. Maybe I’ll do some selfish sewing this weekend since Monday is Indigenous People’s Day and there is no school. I bought some fleece in a gorgeous deep teal color and plan to make myself the Halifax hoodie from Hey June Handmade. I hope I can work on it so I have something new and cozy to wear when the cool temperatures return!
What I’m cooking: I might be thinking about Christmas and dressing like it’s still summer this week, but I’m definitely cooking like it’s autumn! I made this pumpkin skillet coffee cake yesterday and it was scrumptious. Do you have any favorite pumpkin recipes?
What I’m reading: The news. I didn’t do much reading for pleasure this week on account of having such a lengthy to-do list, but I consistently read the news. There has been a lot in the news lately, huh? It can be overwhelming at times, but I find that reading the news instead of watching it allows me to digest information at my own pace. I can also choose sources that I trust and that align with my values and interests. I especially appreciate Block Club Chicago, an online newspaper that reports on a variety of local stories. Do you have a favorite news source?
Thank you for spending a few minutes of your time here at Haven Handmade. I know that time is a commodity we never seem to have enough of, so it means a lot that you spend a little of yours here. It’s back to holiday planning mode for me for a few more hours, and then I hope this long weekend doesn’t fly by as fast as the week did. Enjoy your weekend!
