This Week in My Haven: No. 4
This week in my haven I have had to keep reminding myself that it is just mid-October. My mind has been totally occupied with thoughts of winter and Christmas. My order of Christmas fabrics arrived and I am working on getting Haven Handmade ready for the holidays. I am planning to add not only Christmas colors and prints, but also a few new items. I have so much to do, but I am looking forward to the work. The hardest part is deciding which item on my to-do list to tackle next!
Shop announcements:
Kid’s aprons have been added to the shop! They are the same style as the adult’s aprons, but made to fit your young kitchen helpers.
There will be a holiday pre-order sale starting soon offering 10% off all holiday prints and colors through the beginning of November. If you are thinking of getting something new for the Christmas season this is the time to do it so that you can be sure to get it by the beginning of December. Keep an eye on social media for news of when the Haven Handmade shop is updated!
I will be adding royal blue yarn dyed cotton aprons, placemats, and napkins soon too. This color has been requested and I am excited to be finally adding it.
A free cloth face mask is being included with all October orders. You can’t have enough masks, right?
I am running low on golden yellow fabric and I don’t know when it will be back in stock to reorder it. So if you like this color, order right away!
What I’m thinking about: (Besides the holidays, that is.) Voting and flu shots. It might seem like a strange combination of things to have on my mind. However, I had the realization that they share something important in common--both work best when everyone participates. The combination is a little less unexpected when you think about it this way, huh?
What I’m making: I haven’t started on my new Halifax hoodie yet, like I had hoped to, and I am still working on the Playtime dress for my daughter. Being at a sewing machine more hours than I was previously used to doesn’t ensure that I sew personal items any faster than before. That’s ok though. I am just enjoying the fact that I am making things on a regular basis.
What I’m cooking: I love recipes that balance the healthy with the indulgent. This winter squash carbonara with pancetta and sage is a perfect example of a recipe that does that really well. This recipe is mostly plant-based, but with little bit of salty, rich pancetta to give it a special touch. We had this for dinner last night and it really hit the spot. (Side note: I have also swapped the pancetta for walnuts when I have wanted a meatless main dish.)
What I’m reading: I am now reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. This is my book club’s next pick and even though I have just started reading it, I am already looking forward to our discussion of this novel. This book touches on themes of sisterhood, race, and identity and I think it’s going to be quite a memorable read. (If you are curious about what I thought of Oona Out of Order, I definitely recommend reading it. It was original, sweet, and intriguing. If you are into music, you will probably love the references to influential musicians throughout the timeline of the book too.)
I hope you all have a warm and wonderful weekend! Thanks for taking a moment to stop by and see what’s happening with me and with Haven Handmade!
