This Week in My Haven: No. 15

This week in my haven has been pretty cozy and relaxing, which is exactly what I needed before the start of the new year. Even though I think we all know that things aren’t suddenly going to be much different or better just because we’ve turned the page on the calendar, I still think it’s important to start the year full of hope. For me, this means thinking about what I want to achieve in 2021 and how I will reach those goals. Read on for a little preview of what I’m looking forward to accomplishing this year.

  • You are going to start seeing new items in my shop this week! Keep an eye on Instagram and/or Facebook for updates.

What I’m thinking about: Relationships. I realized that many of my goals for Haven Handmade in 2021 have something to do with forming relationships. Let me give you two examples. One area I want to work on is using my Instagram account to create more meaningful connections and build a community. I want to hear from more of you and use social media to highlight common areas of interest. A second example of how relationships are a big part of my 2021 goals is that I am working on forming a business peer support group (sometimes called a mastermind). Meeting other creative professionals and learning from one another is something I am really excited for.

What I’m making: Usually I share about my personal makes in this section of my journal, but I want to stick with the theme of goals. So let me share some of my creative goals for the new year. For starters, I want to take some more risks with the designs I put into my shop. I like styles that are fairly simple and versatile, but it’s also nice to have some variety. I would also love to learn to create my own surface designs. Finally, improving my photography skills is another goal I have.

What I’m cooking: I also have a few goals to accomplish in the kitchen. While my husband was making meatballs and marinara for our Christmas dinner like he does every year, I realized that he has a few “signature dishes” that he makes really well and that we always rely on him to cook, but I don’t. I really want to find my signature dish this year. I’m not sure what it will be yet, but I want it to be something that can be scaled up for large gatherings or down for our small family. I also want to learn to make French macarons and continue expanding my sourdough baking repertoire.

What I’m reading: I want to read a wider range of books this year. I mostly read fiction in my free time (other than the news and a few blogs, etc.), so I would like to be more adventurous in the genres I choose to read. I would like to read more non-fiction, biographies, and books by authors I might not normally choose. What I’m really saying is, I’d like to challenge myself.

Do you have any goals for the new year? Or any resources, recipes, or reading recommendations to share to help me reach mine? Please let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear how you are planning to bring more creativity, hope, and joy into your haven in 2021. Lastly, I want to wish all of you a very happy new year and thank you for your presence here.
