This Week in My Haven: No. 19
This week in my haven turned out better than I expected. I think my expectations for the week were pretty low at the beginning because it was looking like the school schedule was going to be disrupted, which affects my working hours and productivity (that’s not a complaint, just a fact of life right now). However, school proceeded as usual and so did my work. I also got to meet virtually with several other creative professionals and it was so affirming to share our stories, goals, and challenges with one another. There were other little things throughout the week that were really positive too--meeting up with friends to let our kids play in the snow, Joanna’s first piano lesson, a Zoom hangout with friends, and a virtual cooking class tonight. What happened in your haven this week?
Shop announcements: More new items are being added every week!
Check out the “Morning Sun” and “Color Your Haven” collections to find some items that would make great Valentine’s Day gifts for kids or adults.
What I’m thinking about: Motivation. When you are your own boss and the business’ only employee, it’s all on you to keep up your own motivation. What a challenge, right? Being able to make all the decisions for the business has its perks for sure, but every now and then I wish there was someone who could tell me what I should do next. That’s why I am so glad to be connecting with other creative professionals more this year. I am finding that no matter where we’re at in the journey, we share common challenges. It’s reassuring to me to know this because it means I’m not doing it all wrong!
What I’m making: On my Instagram stories this week I shared a few of my recent personal makes. One in particular got a lot of love--the Queen Bee purse I made in Rifle Paper Co. fabric. I had at least one person interested in having me make a similar purse for them as a custom order. If you are interested in having me make you a purse too, let me know by this Sunday and I will put together a special pre-order for everyone. You’d be able to pick the fabric(s) you want yours made from and the estimated cost would be $75-$100.
What I’m cooking: Our cooking this week has focused on using the produce we received in our CSA box from The Urban Canopy. We turned mushrooms and cabbage into delicious hand pies, ate turnips roasted with spicy honey, and munched on sweet golden delicious apples. Tonight we are participating in a paella cooking class with some of Peter’s family members and I made these Belgian brownie cakelets as our dessert. What yummy things are you cooking these days?
What I’m reading: I have to confess that I didn’t do much reading this week, and I’m not really sure why. Should I share what we’ve been watching instead? Ok, why not? Here are the main three shows we’ve been watching:
1. All Creatures Great and Small (about a country veterinarian in the 1930s, on PBS on Sunday nights)
2. Halt and Catch Fire (about a group of computer engineers and how their lives change as technology changes, on Netflix)
3. The Chef Show (Jon Favreau and Roy Choi cook things with a variety of guests, on Netflix)
Time for me to get back to sewing! I hope you have a peaceful, relaxing weekend.
