In My Haven: November 11
This week in my haven went by in a blur of fabric and thread. I really can't believe it’s already Friday! I sewed 72 French cross appliqués for a very special custom order this week that I'm sharing more about in this week’s journal. I also really wanted to get started on my winter and Christmas offerings this week (more about that below). The busiest time of year for makers and creative business owners is definitely already here and your support is so greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy the behind-the-scenes stories of what I'm working on!
Haven Handmade Shop Appliqué of the Week
Reindeer Dressed for Winter
My first winter design is finally ready to share! I wanted to dress up some of my adorable animal face appliqués for winter, so I gave them tacky Christmas sweaters and scarves. New to the adorable animal crew is this sweet reindeer! You can also get penguins and polar bears in sweaters and scarves. Which one is your favorite? I have to confess that I really want to try stitching these appliqués onto sweatshirts for Peter, Joanna and I.
All three of these are 10% off this week with the “appliqué of the week” discount code: AOTW. And if you're into sewing too, I've saved the best news for you—this reindeer appliqué pattern is available as a free download!
What I Made
Reversible French Cross Placemats
If you follow Haven Handmade on Instagram, you're probably already aware of the 72 French crosses that I've been working on cutting and sewing over the past week or so. It can be challenging to sew the same shape 72 times in a row, but the fact that it was such a meaningful design made it easier. The French cross is the symbol for my alma mater, Saint Mary's College, so sewing this project brought back many wonderful memories of the experiences I had and the people I met there. The photo here really doesn’t show how spectacular these placemats turned out. I'm sure they will be cherished by the recipient.
More From My Haven
Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.
What I'm cooking: The tastiest thing I cooked this week was broccoli cheddar soup, but I didn’t use a recipe. Instead, I'll share the second tastiest thing: Brownie Roll-Out Cookies
What I'm reading: I finally finished ready The Memory of Babel by Christelle Dabos, which is book 3 of the Mirror Visitor series, and I've started to read book 4: The Storm of Echoes.
What I'm reading with Joanna: I also finished reading The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis with Joanna. We will probably read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe next, but I'll let you know for sure next week.
What's happening in your haven this week?
Warmly,
Beth
