In My Haven: November 4

This week in my haven had me sewing during every spare moment! It seems like the holiday rush is starting extra early this year even though I haven't even posted any of my new winter or Christmas designs yet. It's been very exciting and fun to receive some special order requests to work on though. Maybe you saw the custom ordered placemats I posted on Instagram this week or the French crosses I was cutting for another special project? I also completed a set of items for Sacred Art, a Chicago shop that is opening a second location in Geneva, Illinois that will be called Midwest Nice. I had been planning to start introducing my Christmas season designs this week, but I got so caught up in sewing these orders that it'll have to wait one more week. Have you started shopping for the holidays yet or are you waiting a few more weeks?

Haven Handmade Shop Appliqué of the Week

Pumpkin Trio

Fall is not over yet and there's no need to put the pumpkins away just because Halloween is over! This pumpkin trio is great through the whole fall season with it’s autumnal color palette of not-too-bright orange, sky blue and sage green. I've made this appliqué into pillows and baskets, but I also think it would be perfect for a set of placemats for your Thanksgiving table. Don't forget that the code AOTW gets you 10% off this design for this week only!

Adorable Animals in Tacky Holiday Sweaters

I thought that my adorable animal face appliqués needed to look extra special for the holiday season, so I've been working on designing them some tacky Christmas sweaters and scarves. I hope to have these guys ready to order next week. Which adorable animal do you want to see wearing a tacky, but cute, holiday ensemble?

More From My Haven

Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.

  • What I'm cooking: I just made these pumpkin muffins, but I added fresh cranberries and a streusel topping to them. Yum!

  • What I'm reading: Same as last week— The Memory of Babel by Christelle Dabos (Book 3 of the Mirror Visitor series)

  • What I'm reading with Joanna: Same as last week— The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis (Book 1 or 6 in the Chronicle of Narnia series, depending on whether you read them chronologically or in publication order)

What I Made

Joanna was super happy with her homemade monarch butterfly costume for Halloween this year. We made the wings together and then I sewed the black and white polka dot dress using the Hopscotch Dress pattern by Oliver and S. She can wear the dress on its own for regular occasions and then just snap on the wings when she wants to pretend to be a butterfly. I dislike sewing costumes that only get worn once or twice, so I enjoyed making her a costume that can become part of her regular wardrobe.

What's happening in your haven this week?

Warmly,

Beth
