This Week in My Haven: No. 5
This week in my haven has been pretty productive, I am happy to report! I finished my samples for the Haven Handmade Holiday Shop, got them photographed, and up for sale. In fact, the whole shop got a little bit of reorganization this week to make it, hopefully, easier to find what you are looking for and to see how many different options there are. It feels so good to have the shop in order and ready for all the holiday shoppers. I don’t know about you, but I plan to do my holiday shopping early this year. One reason for this is that if I wait too long, I end up buying all my gifts from that behemoth online retailer known for two-day shipping, and I really don’t think they need any extra money right now. Shopping for gifts early means I can be more intentional about who my dollars are supporting. Speaking of being intentional about who we are supporting, Election Night is just around the corner and I think that’s something worth celebrating too. So to help get you in the holiday shopping spirit and to encourage you to get out and vote too, I am having a little sale from now until Election Day! See below for the details.
Shop announcements:
Get your holiday shopping started early, celebrate the fact that we get to choose the leaders of our country, state, and local communities, and save a few bucks. Use the code “IVOTED” at checkout to save 10% on your order from now until Tuesday, November 3rd.
Free masks are still going out with all October orders. You have one more week to get yours!
There are so many new items in the shop--royal blue kitchen linens, Christmas colors and prints, stockings, gift bags, apron sets!
I added a “Custom Orders” page. If you are looking for something one-of-a-kind, I would be happy to make it for you.
What I’m thinking about: Halloween! I wasn’t sure if Halloween would be a day to get too excited about this year since we decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea to go trick-or-treating, but we discussed it with our daughter and she came up with a great alternative. She is hosting a Halloween costume contest on Zoom for a bunch of our family and friends. She is going to judge the contest and we are going to send out goody bags to the winners. I am constantly impressed by how Joanna has taken everything in stride as we adapt our life to remain as safe as possible during this pandemic.
What I’m making: I finished the Playtime dress for my daughter (did you see how happy she looks in it?), and got the Halifax hoodie pattern printed out and taped together. And it looks like I am going to get started just in time for the truly chilly weather to arrive.
What I’m cooking: Joanna and I decided to make homemade chocolate pudding earlier this week because she has a loose tooth that she doesn’t want to pull and wanted soft foods to eat. (That’s a whole other story.) Anyway, it turned out to be an excellent decision. We topped our puddings with all sorts of goodies from chopped peanuts to mini chocolate chips to bananas to whipped cream. I don’t have a particular recipe to share, but if you haven’t made chocolate pudding or any flavor of pudding in a while, here’s a recommendation to wait no longer!
What I’m reading: Fiction-wise, I am still reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. I am really enjoying how the story is unfolding and I will definitely share whether I recommend it or not once I finish reading it. I also read this article and found the message about how the author finds her identity really affirming. It’s a lifelong process for us all, right?
I’m off to brighten this dreary day with the brightly colored fabrics in my sewing room now. I hope you have a delightful weekend. Stay safe!
