This Week in Our Haven: No. 35
This week I’m in the mood to write a little different type of journal post for you. If you read this journal every week, you probably already know that books are an important part of our family routine and culture. We really believe in the power of a story to educate, entertain, inspire, and connect us. So what I’d like to write about today is some book recommendations to pair with a Huggable to create a perfect gift for a special young person you know.
Shop announcements:
Double, Triple, and Quadruple Portraits Pillows are now available! You now also have the option of having the edges left plain so that you can frame it anyway you like or choose to have it finished in an embroidery hoop.
Huggable Piggies and Huggable Unicorns are in the shop! They are so cute I want to keep them for myself, but please don’t let me.
Huggable Kids & Babies: If you’re going to design your Huggable Kid or Huggable Baby to look like the recipient, then a personalized book would make the gift complete. My daughter has received a couple of these name books from Wonderbly over the years (The Wondrous Road Ahead and The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name), and she absolutely cherishes them. We have also given them as gifts. The stories are fun and sweet and I think it’s great for kids to see themselves as the protagonist in the story. Another option would be to design a Huggable that looks like a character in whatever book you’re giving. I know for a fact that Huggables make great reading buddies!
Huggable Kitty: Although Joanna has grown out of this series now, the Pete the Cat books were a big favorite of hers when she was a preschooler. The stories are positive, warm, funny, and encouraging. A Huggable Kitty, especially if it’s blue, along with any book from this series would make a wonderful gift for a young child.
Huggable Unicorn: The Never Let a Unicorn... series by Diane Alber is very cute and would pair perfectly with a Huggable Unicorn just like the one in the story. Joanna has a couple from this series and she enjoys how the ending always results in something beautiful being created out of a mess. These books have a positive message about creativity that I think kids will enjoy.
Huggable Piggy: The Mercy Watson series by Kate DiCamillo is a great choice for a story with a pig as the hero. Joanna is really into this series right now. They are fun to read aloud with her, and she is able to read them to herself. For younger recipients, I’d recommend an Elephant and Piggie book by Mo Willems. These two characters are so endearing and also happen to be the first books Joanna could read by herself. They hold a very special place on Joanna’s bookshelf. A Huggable Piggy would be just the thing to go along with either of these book series.
As I perused Joanna’s bookshelf for ideas, I didn’t come up with any ideas for the Huggable Mermaids, Baseball Players, or Puppies. I’m going to be on the lookout for good books about puppies, mermaids, and baseball in the upcoming weeks, and once I find some I’ll be sure to share with you. In the meantime, I’d love to know what books you’d pair with a Huggable to make a perfect gift. Comment below with your recommendations and Joanna and I will be sure to check them out!
Now I’m really in the mood to relax and read a good book myself, especially if I can do it outside while sipping a fancy beverage of some sort! I hope you find the time to read a good story this weekend too.
